It was announced back on Dec. 17 that Inter Milan terminated the contract for midfielder Christian Eriksen by mutual consent because he is unable to play for any Serie A club after he was fitted with a defibrillator following the cardiac arrest he suffered during the UEFA European Championship in June.
Eriksen joined Inter from Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur in January 2020, and he played under current Tottenham boss Antonio Conte en route to winning the Serie A title. It's been thought Eriksen could eventually resume his professional career in England, his native Denmark or Holland with his ICD device if he can pass a club medical, but Sky Sport correspondent Gianluca Di Marzio poured cold water over the playmaker returning to Tottenham during the January transfer window.
"I do not think it (a move to Tottenham) will be possible. Tottenham have started a new era under Antonio Conte," Di Marzio told Spilxperten out of Denmark, per Danyal Khan of Football.London. "What Antonio Conte demands of his players is too much for Christian (Eriksen). He needs weeks and months to get back to the right rhythm and intensity.
"The Premier League is a tournament that is not waiting for you. It is impossible for him to get fit to play in such a club with that intensity right away. So I think Denmark or the Netherlands will be the best solution for him."
Tottenham currently sit sixth in the Premier League table but are just five points off the Champions League places.
