According to German outlet Bild, Wolfsburg are preparing for a significant squad overhaul following relegation.

Several players are expected the leave as the club looks to reduce costs and reshape the squad for next season.

Among those mentioned is Eriksen.

Bild report that the 34-year-old is unlikely to remain at the club.

He has already attracted interest from a former club ahead of the summer transfer window.

That club is Ajax.

The Dutch giants are said to be monitoring Eriksen’s situation as they explore possible additions to their squad.

A return would represent a homecoming for the midfielder.

He spent four successful years in Amsterdam before moving to Tottenham Hotspur.

Eriksen made 162 appearances for Ajax during the first stage of his senior career.

He scored 32 goals for them and established himself as one of Europe’s most talented young midfielders.

Since then, he has enjoyed spells with Tottenham Hotspur, Inter Milan, Manchester United and Wolfsburg.

Whether Ajax formalise their interest remains to be seen.

However, the report suggests Eriksen could be one of several high-profile departures from Wolfsburg this summer.
