Manchester United are set to take a significant portion of any transfer fee paid for Mason Greenwood this summer, as the former Red Devils player edges closer to an exit from Marseille.
Despite having a great season on the field, the 24-year-old had disputes off it, with tensions rising between him and Director of Football Medhi Benatia, who was reported as a vocal critic of the Englishman.
As soon as it became apparent that Mason Greenwood was to leave Marseille this summer, Turkish club Fenerbahçe became a clear suitor.
According to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna on X, Fenerbahçe executive Feridun Geçgel is currently in France to negotiate the signing.
The Turks’ latest offer, of €30 million before bonuses from several weeks ago, was deemed insufficient by Marseille, and now Fenerbahçe are expected to come back with an offer worth below €50 million.
The race to sign Greenwood is hotting up, but it appears there is one clear frontrunner, despite various reports of interest.
Manchester United will be watching tentatively as a deal edges closer. The Red Devils are set to receive a significant sell-on clause, which is likely to be a decent amount with numbers floating around.
This will hugely boost them in their transfer efforts this summer, potentially allowing Michael Carrick’s side to go for a target they other wise may not have been able to vie for.
Any deal made for Mason Greenwood will be a good one for United, as the former United winger looks to move on from Marseille.
