Luciano Spalletti is firmly at the helm of Juventus, even though he hasn’t renewed his contract yet. In addition to trying to obtain results, he’ll use the final months of the season to evaluate the squad ahead of the summer. A few players already appear to have been axed, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs (via PressReader).

Lois Openda didn’t get the nod against Galatasaray, even though Jonathan David was missing. He has logged just 87 minutes in the last 8 matches. And, if Dusan Vlahovic were available, the Canadian international probably wouldn’t feature a lot either.

Spalletti has big reservations about some Juventus staples. For instance, Federico Gatti, who was also a fringe part of his Italy roster already because of his traits, and Michele Di Gregorio, who has had some blunders in big spots.

Lloyd Kelly has been entrusted with a significant role, but he hasn’t always lived up to the task. Juan Cabal has struggled in most of his recent appearances. Edon Zhegrova and Vasilije Adzic have barely seen the pitch.

The Bianconeri have lofty plans for the summer after two stingy windows. Making the top four is crucial to executing them. Otherwise, they might have to cash in on one of their cornerstones to foot multiple acquisitions.

Our Take on Juventus and Spalletti

We’ll see whether he’ll still be the one to call the shots if they don’t reach their goal. He should, but the Old Lady is quick to tear coaches and execs down after building them up. The gulf between starters and backups is one of their main defects. They’ll need a lot of work and funding to remedy that in a single session.
