Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has been ‘fired’ by the club with immediate effect. The former PSG and Tottenham Hotspur boss lasted just one season in charge after taking the reins at the start of the 2023/24 season. The absence of crucial players, unfortunate injuries, and stop-start form were just a few of the many reasons why Chelsea failed to impress this year.

As Pochettino makes his way out of the club, one can’t possibly ignore the development of a particular forward – Cole Palmer. The Chelsea No.20 has assumed the role of striker, target man, and everything in between for the Blues.

His goal scoring prowess was so good that at one point, Palmer was leading the charts for goals scored as well as goal contributions in the Premier League. Palmer penned an emotional post showing his gratitude for the manager.

Gaffer, thank you for everything you've done for me and for making my dreams come true. All the best. Cole Palmer’s Instagram caption for Pochettino

Pochettino leaves Chelsea with an amazing streak to remember. His final 5 games were all straight wins, while also leading the club to a Conference League spot.

Mauricio Pochettino ‘thanks’ Chelsea despite shocking decision to sack manager

Mauricio Pochettino‘s sacking was as unexpected for the players as it was for the manager. A quick look at the farewell messages put up by his players reveals a sense of shock and surprise. Moreover, the team’s final run of games and sixth place finish gave little reason for fans to think that Pochettino was in fact, on his way out.

Despite the surprising decision, Pochettino thanked the club for their trust in him and wished them the best in their future endeavours.

Thank you to the Chelsea ownership and sporting directors for making me a part of this club's history. The club is well equipped to move forward in the Premier League and Europe in the coming seasons. Mauricio Pochettino said in an interview

When asked about Pochettino’s sacking, Premier League managers Rob Edwards and Gary O’Neil claimed that it came as a shock and a surprise. There are rumors that Pochettino will replace Erik ten Hag at Manchester United after meeting with INEOS. If it happens, the move will surely be a bigger surprise than Pochettino’s sacking by Chelsea!
