Colin Cowherd Buys Stake In A Premier League Team

We can add Colin Cowherd to the growing list of American sports people investing in soccer domestically and abroad. Though in Cowherd’s case, he’s getting his share in England’s biggest league.

According to Front Office Sports , Cowherd has confirmed that he now owns a minority stake in the recently-promoted Premier League team Ipswich Town F.C. The size of his stake is not known but the team has a reported valuation of $450 million.

“Reached by phone, Cowherd confirmed that he became a part-owner in the team. His late mother, Patricia, was from Leicester, 120 miles away…” the outlet reported. “A spokesperson for Ipswich said he wasn’t able to comment on any individual investment arrangements.”

Speaking to FOS, Cowherd stated that he has previously tried to purchase a stake in a Major League Soccer team but couldn’t reach a deal. His co-host on The Herd, Jason McIntyre, already owns a minority stake in Club Nexaca, a team that plays in Mexico’s top-flight Liga MX.

But Cowherd isn’t alone in getting a piece of the Ipswich Town pie. The 140-year-old team has a pretty long list of partial owners, including former Miami Heat player Udonis Haslam, former New Orleans Saints wide receiver Marques Colston and even singer Ed Sheeran.

Ipswich Town’s History

Ipswich Town F.C. was founded in 1878 and turned professional in 1936, joining the Football League in 1938. The club won the top division title in 1961–62, their first season in England’s top flight.

The club later achieved FA Cup glory in 1978 and UEFA Cup success in 1981 and was an inaugural member of the newly-minted Premier League in 1992. But after a demotion in 2002, the club spent the next decade-and-a-half in the Championship Division, culminating in their demotion to division three in 2019.

But after earning promotion back to second division in 2023, they followed that up with a second straight promotion to the Premier League in 2024.
