After last week's match against Benfica in the Champions League, Real Madrid learned that their top goalscorer of the season so far, Kylian Mbappe, continues to have discomfort in his knee.
Mbappe is currently injured and missed Real Madrid's 2-1 win over Benfica last week in the Champions League, which sees them reach the Champions League Round of 16 against Manchester City this month.
Real Madrid manager Alvaro Arbeloa spoke after the match and confirmed Mbappe's injury and that the French star is expected tobe out for a while.
Arbeloa said, "This [Mbappe] injury, it's not a matter of days, it's a bit longer than that."
Mbappe is reportedly set to miss the next few games for Real Madrid, and the French star is aiming to be back for the second leg of the Round of 16 Champions League match against Manchester City on March 17, 2026.
New reports from Spain suggest that he will be ruled out for the knockout tie against Manchester City completely.
Jorge Picon of ElDesmarque reports that Real Madrid now believes that Kylian Mbappe might be forced to have knee surgery.
Spanish outlet Marca reports that Mbappe is upset with Real Madrid's medical services, as he believes they have not given him any proper solution to his knee injury in over 3 months now, leading him to get checked by French medical specialists.
Arbeloa spoke about Mbappe's injury ahead of their match against Getafe tonight in La Liga. Arbeloa said, "We want him to fully recover from these minor discomforts so he can be back 100%."
Real Madrid published an official statement on Mbappe's surgery, which confirms that the player has a knee sprain.
Real Madrid's Statement: "After the tests carried out on our player Kylian Mbappé by French medical specialists, under the supervision of the Real Madrid Medical Services, the diagnosis of sprained left knee and the suitability of the conservative treatment that is being followed are confirmed.
