Cremonese Enter the Race for Redundant Lazio Midfielder

Cremonese have become the latest club to register their interest in Reda Belahyane, who could be on his way out of Lazio.

The 21-year-old has been plying his trade in Serie A since making the move from OGC Nice to Hellas Verona in January 2024. A year later, the Moroccan was reunited with Marco Baroni in Formello, but he never managed to carve out an important role at the club.

Belahyane’s status in the capital took a further hit when Danilo Cataldi returned to the club in July, making him surplus to requirements in Maurizio Sarri’s plans. Due to the transfer ban, Lazio kept the squad virtually intact in the summer, but they have been ringing changes in January, and the young midfielder has been identified as one of the players who could make way.

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Belahyane has found himself a new suitor in the form of Cremonese, who have emerged as a potential destination for the youngster. The Tigers have already done business with Lazio last summer, signing Romano Floriani Mussolini on a loan with an option to buy at the end of the season.

Belahyane had also been linked with Torino, who were said to be keen on reuniting him once more with his old mentor, Baroni. At one point, the Granata were reportedly close to sealing the deal, but their interest may have dwindled in recent days, at least based on the lack of updates in the Italian media.

Lazio have made a habit out of selling a player before buying a replacement, as evidenced by the Castellanos-Ratkov and Guendouzi-Taylor cases. Therefore, Belahyane’s departure could be the key to unlocking a new arrival in the middle of the park. The club is currently on the lookout for a right-footed box-to-box midfielder, with Alex Toth and Giovanni Fabbian at the top of their wishlist.
