Cristian Chivu is counting on his captain Lautaro Martinez to reunite an Inter Milan dressing room that has become frayed.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Cristian Chivu has a big job on his hands at Inter Milan. Not just tactically, but also in terms of the dressing room dynamics.

Of course, the transfer saga with Hakan Calhanoglu accounts for part of the issue.

But in truth, things go deeper than that. The way that last season ended after showing so much has left deep scars in the Inter squad.

Chivu Counting On Lautaro To Reunite Frayed Inter Dressing Room

Inter captain Lautaro Martinez hardly helped matters with comments that he made regarding the Calhanoglu transfer rumours.

Speaking frankly after Inter’s Club World Cup exit against Fluminense, the Argentine implored “whoever wants to leave, leave.”

However, that outburst was ultimately the result of Martinez’s frustration as the captain and dressing room leader.

Chivu has used the fallout from Martinez’s comments to bring a lot of feelings within the team out in the open.

And now, Martinez has a pivotal role to play. He is not just the captain at Inter – the 27-year-old is also the dressing room leader.

Therefore, a lot of how Chivu’s project goes at Inter will pivot on Martinez’s influence.
