Cristiano Ronaldo couldn't be more hyped up after sending the Portugal national football team to the Nations League final on Wednesday.
The 40-year-old forward's future in football has been a major talking point over the last few days. Speculation only intensified after he shared a cryptic message following the final match of the season for his Saudi Arabia club, Al-Nassr FC.
In social media, Ronaldo wrote: "This chapter is over. The story? Still being written. Grateful to all."
Amid talks about his future — including rumors that he may join a different team to play in the Club World Cup this June — Ronaldo first rejoined the Portuguese team to participate in the Nations League semifinal, where they faced Germany.
In the showdown, Ronaldo not only proved that he still has what it takes to win at the highest level, but he also showed that he can still make a decisive impact, just as he always has.
CR7 scored the winning goal in the 68th minute, five minutes after substitute Francisco Conceicao fired the equalizer for Portugal. Prior to that, Germany had taken a 1-0 lead after Florian Wirtz scored in the 48th minute.
Following Portugal's 2-1 win, Ronaldo took to Instagram to commemorate the win. He shared several photos of himself and his teammates celebrating, writing in the caption, "ONWARDS PORTUGAL!"
As one of the most-followed athletes on Instagram — boasting over 655 million followers — Cristiano Ronaldo's post naturally went viral quickly, with several fans cheering for him and Portugal.
Portugal will face the winner of the Spain-France match in the final, which is set for Sunday at the Allianz Arena.
Sure enough, plenty of eyes will be on Ronaldo to see if he can lead Portugal to another Nations League title after their win in the tournament's inaugural season.
