Tottenham Hotspur are ready to back Thomas Frank in this summer’s transfer window.
Spurs appear to have stepped up their efforts in the transfer window to build on Thomas Frank’s squad. With a clear understanding of the need to overhaul their attacking lineup, the Hotspur Way chiefs are making strategic decisions that could shape the club’s future in the present scenario and beyond.
Mathys Tel’s signing has already been made permanent from Bayern Munich, but Spurs are looking out for more reinforcements in attack. The North Londoners were keen on signing Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo and reunite him with Frank, however, he is heading to Manchester United. This has forced Spurs to look out for alternative attacking targets, and it looks like they have set their sights on a player from their London counterparts.
According to a report from The Guardian, Tottenham are eyeing a move for Crystal Palace attacker Eberechi Eze as a ‘statement signing’. The North Londoners believe the player would be open to joining them, and he is represented by the influential CAA Base agency, which has a number of Spurs players, including the captain Son Heung-min, James Maddison and Pape Matar Sarr.
Eberechi Eze has a £68m release clause in his Crystal Palace contract that needs to be triggered by his suitors for his services. It is also believed that the 26-year-old is open to move across the capital in the coming weeks.
The England international, who scored his first goal for his nation in the World Cup qualifying win against Latvia back in March, finished the past campaign in scintillating fashion. The creative attacker scored nine in last 13 matches for the Eagles, including a brace in the 2-0 league away victory over Spurs, followed by the winner in the FA Cup final against Manchester City last month.
Tottenham perhaps view Eze as a long-term replacement for Son Heung-min, whose long-term future at White Hart Lane remains up in the air. The South Korean’s contract is up next year and will turn 34 next summer. The forward has been heavily linked with a move to the cash-rich Saudi Pro League.
Reports from last month suggested Daniel Levy is ready to show ambition in the transfer market and make a marquee signing after the club’s Europa League success and subsequent qualification to the Champions League. And in Eze, who can play in multiple attacking positions, Levy could make a statement addition. The 26-year-old would undoubtedly bolster Frank’s squad and arrive as a strong potential long-term replacement for Son.
