Danny Welbeck agrees to join Chelsea

Danny Welbeck enjoyed a phenomenal season last year with Brighton and Hove Albion, grabbing 13 goals across his 37 Premier League games played.

Despite his age, at 35 years old, this marked his career best Premier League outing in front of goal, continuing his tally with The Seagulls, out scoring his time at Arsenal and Manchester United.

Since joining Brighton in 2020, Welbeck has racked up 51 goals and 18 assists in 201 games, being a vital member of the squad.

As such, there were questions over if the Manchester United academy graduate would be recalled to the England squad for the 2026 World Cup, however it was not to be.

How though, the striker looks set for a new chapter as Alex Crook has reported on X that Danny Welbeck has agreed terms to move to Stamford Bridge, set to join Chelsea under Xabi Alonso.

While talks between the two clubs are still ongoing, it’s understood that Chelsea are confident on signing the former Arsenal and United man, with Brighton not wanting to stand in his way.

If the deal goes through, it’ll be the third “big six” club the former England international has played for, after rising through the ranks at Old Trafford, grabbing 29 goals and 16 assists in 142 games.

In 2014 Welbeck left Manchester for London, joining Arsenal for £17 million where he went on to make 126 appearances, scoring 32 goals and grabbing 13 assists.

Now, he’s set to continue his Premier League career with another club, as Alonso is building his squad to reclaim European football at Stamford Bridge.
