Major League Soccer club Inter Miami earned a playoff berth their inaugural season in 2020 and have international superstars such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Neymar on their radar moving forward.
"When we announced Miami, there was always going to be talk about what players we were going to bring in, whether it was Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar," Inter Miami co-owner and former L.A. Galaxy player David Beckham told ESPN's Taylor Twellman. "There was always going to be those discussions. I actually don't think it's a tough one for players to decide, to be honest, because it's a great place."
Beckham added:
"Obviously, it's a great city, I feel like we've got a great fan base, but I also understand there's great talent in Miami and South Florida, and I think we have a real opportunity. Miami is a city that has that pull on players who have been playing in Europe that are big stars."
Messi famously attempted to terminate his Barcelona deal last summer and is out of contract following the current season. Ronaldo, meanwhile, has repeatedly been mentioned in transfer rumors this month, but Fabrizio Romano reports for CBS Sports that Neymar is set to agree to a new contract that could keep him linked with reigning Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain through 2026.
All three have much to offer playing on the largest stages of European football next fall, but one wonders if either Ronaldo or Messi could be lured to Miami for a South Beach lifestyle and less grueling playing experiences.
