Spurs’ dramatic Europa League triumph over Man Utd, Beckham penned a classy message to the North London side

Tottenham are riding high after ending their 17-year trophy drought with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the Europa League final. Emotions are overflowing as the club celebrates a historic win, and with Ange Postecoglou hinting that the third season could be even better than the second, Spurs fans are already looking ahead with excitement.

Following Tottenham’s dramatic triumph over Manchester United, David Beckham sent a message to the North London club after they defeated his boyhood team.

Inter Miami president David Beckham, whose family has Tottenham connections, sent a lovely message to the club as the team paraded their trophy in N17. The former Manchester United player told a story about how his grandfather was a Spurs fan his entire life, and would have been “one proud man” to watch Tottenham become the Europa League champions.

Beckham’s grandfather supported Spurs before his father, Ted, decided to follow Manchester United along the same path as Beckham. In that long-awaited final, Brennan Johnson scored the goal that made the difference in Bilbao as the Lilywhites celebrated their first European trophy since 1984 and an end to the 17-year wait for any silverware.

The legendary United midfielder has North London connections

David Beckham’s grandfather witnessed Tottenham’s UEFA Cup triumphs in 1972 and 1984 — historic moments that saw Spurs become the first club to win the competition and later defeat Anderlecht over two legs to lift it again.

The connections just does not end there as many Spurs fans may also recall Beckham training at the club’s former training ground in January 2011.

Following the club’s latest European success, Beckham commented on the official Spurs Instagram account, writing:

“My grandad would be one proud man @SpursOfficial. Congratulations.”


David Beckham faced Tottenham Hotspur 17 times in his career; he achieved 13 wins, one draw, three losses and contributing to ten goals, . Looking ahead, Tottenham are set to play at the 2025 UEFA Super Cup against the Champions League winners on 13 August at the Stadio Friuli in Udine.

While things are looking bright for the Lilywhites, There is ongoing confusion surrounding manager Ange Postecoglou’s future after he has received no clarity from the club’s hierarchy, despite leading Spurs to their first European trophy in 41 years.
