David Beckham’s 5-Word Message To New Inter Miami Coach

Inter Miami CF officially announced Javier Mascherano as its new head coach on Tuesday, and co-owner David Beckham wasted no time publicly reacting to the news.

Last Friday, the team parted ways with previous coach Gerardo "Tata" Martino, who both sides said left the position for "personal reasons."

Martino led the South Florida side to an MLS record 74-point regular season in 2024, but pressure on his job mounted after a shocking exit in the first round of the MLS Cup Playoffs.

While Beckham's managing owner, Jorge Mas, made promises about Lionel Messi's future at the Friday press conference, reports had already emerged linking Mascherano to the head coaching job.

Mascherano's shared history as a player at FC Barcelona with Messi, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and Luis Suarez bolstered his candidacy.

Beckham left no doubt about it in his short welcome message to Mascherano on his Instagram story to his more than 88 million followers, which included a reminder of the past.

"Reunited for a new chapter," Beckham wrote, punctuated with pink and black hearts to match the colors of the Herons' badge.

The post contained a collage of images of the four Inter Miami stars Mascherano played with at Barcelona, while the photo of him and Messi showed them sharing the pitch as Argentina teammates.

Mascherano's relationship with his ex-teammates pulls on the heartstrings, but his playing career will immediately command respect from the entire MLS squad beyond them.

He has the second-most appearances for Argentina of all time (147), appearing in four World Cups and serving as captain. He won 21 major trophies in his club career at Barcelona, Liverpool, River Plate and Corinthians.

The 40-year-old also has history with Inter Miami youngsters Tomás Avilés, Benjamin Cremaschi, Facundo Farías and Federico Redondo while coaching for Argentina's youth national teams.
