David Beckham's Inter Miami suffer worst start in MLS history

Major League Soccer expansion side Inter Miami were eliminated from the MLS is Back tournament following a 1-0 defeat to New York City FC on Monday morning.

It was Miami's fifth consecutive loss to begin the club's MLS tenure. Per ESPNFC, the team co-owned by English footballing legend David Beckham is off to the worst start in league history.

As noted by Reuters (h/t ESPN), Miami coach Diego Alonso remained upbeat about his team while speaking with reporters following Monday's result:

"I think football in these three or five games has been unjust with us. We've got a lot less than we deserved. I feel in the game today we didn't play as well as the one before against Philadelphia, but the team deserves more and has got little."We'll have to keep trying, working. I don't regret being the coach of these players. I'm with them more now than ever. I'm convinced that we'll get out of this believing and trusting in them, lifting confidence and trying to get better in the week so that football gives us the rewards we deserve."

Inter Miami fell to LAFC 1-0 and lost to D.C. United 2-1 in March before the league suspended play due to the coronavirus pandemic. While in the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex "bubble" site, Miami dropped matches to Orlando City, Philadelphia Union and New York City FC.
