Transfer expert Matteo Moretto says that Canada international Jonathan David is ‘closer to a foreign destination’ than Napoli or Juventus, even if the Partenopei had nearly reached an agreement with the Lille forward.

Canada international David may be heading towards a club outside Serie A as his contract with Lille expires at the end of the month.

Transfer expert Matteo Moretto provides the latest updates on the 25-year-old, stating that defending Serie A champions Napoli were the closest team only a few weeks ago, with a verbal agreement nearly in place.

David not expected to join Napoli or Juventus

Moretto says the contract offer from Partenopei was for four years, with an annual salary of over €6m per season.

However, “Right now, the percentage of seeing David in Italy is decreasing. He’s surely closer to a foreign destination,” said Moretto.

The Italian transfer expert is unsure Juventus would match the demands from the striker and his entourage.

Previous reports claimed David would still cost €34m despite being available as a free agent.

“Some foreign clubs are pushing hard, and as of today, David’s move to Italy is difficult,” Moretto concluded.

David recently spoke about his future, saying that he’s willing to decide on his next club before the start of the pre-season.

What David said about Juventus and Napoli

He also discussed interest from Juventus and Napoli.

“[Napoli] is a club that just won Serie A. And I’m guessing they don’t just want to win Serie A one year and say, ‘OK, we won, that’s it.’ Obviously, it’s a club that’s ambitious, that’s going to play in the Champions League,” David told The Athletic earlier this week.

“I think anywhere you go, there’s always pressure to perform every week, there is the pressure to keep your spot, pressure from the supporters, because obviously you have to win every game. There is always pressure anywhere you go.”
