Arsenal fans will be relieved to hear that David Ornstein isn’t hearing anything about Real Madrid hijacking a deal for Martin Zubimendi.
The Spain international has long been linked strongly with the Gunners, and it seems they still expect him to join them in the summer.
That’s according to Ornstein’s latest information, which he delivered to a fan during a Q&A session with the Athletic.
Zubimendi has shone during his time in La Liga and it makes sense that he might be someone who’d work his way onto Real Madrid’s radar.
However, Ornstein, one of the most reliable transfer journalists in the business, hasn’t heard anything about this deal being in danger, so Gooners can rest easy.

Responding to a question about Zubimendi and Real Madrid, Ornstein said: “Without wanting to discredit the reporting of others, Blair, I personally haven’t heard this.
“Arsenal are expecting Zubimendi to join in the summer. I don’t know if that means it is completely done but for some time now they have been working on the basis that he will be coming in and a huge amount of work went into getting them to that point – while Edu was still in position as sporting director and subsequently when Jason Ayto took over on an interim basis.
“Andrea Berta will be starting soon as Edu’s permanent successor, so we will hopefully learn as bit more on that and other areas in due course.”
Arsenal have both Jorginho and Thomas Partey coming towards the ends of their contracts this summer, so they could do with bringing in someone like Zubimendi to give Mikel Arteta more depth in midfield next season.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, have pretty decent options in the middle of the park already, so probably don’t need to make that position a priority for the time being.

Andy Robertson has heaped praise on two young Liverpool prospects who he believes have ‘a hell of a future’ ahead of them. Arne Slot is using pre-season to hand opportunities to a few of the Reds’ up-and-coming talents, some of whom have bolstered their reputations in their recent appearances. Rio Ngumoha in particular has caught the eye, bamboozling AC Milan at times in the 4-2 defeat to the Serie A side on Saturday, and Trey Nyoni has also impressed whenever he’s featured this month. He told The Anfield Wrap: “He’s a good kid and he’s got a fantastic head on his shoulders, especially when he’s got people like Mo [Salah] who can help him so much as well. “We always try to help him and Trey. They’re so young but they’re such good kids and they’ve got a hell of a future ahead of themselves. You can just see them coming on every time and the more they train and play with us, the more they just get better and better. “Obviously that’s the last two games I’ve played now with Rio in front of me and he just keeps on coming on. He’s got a hell of a future ahead of him but the here-and-now looks pretty good as well.” Ngumoha and Nyoni both seem to have a vast ceiling Although Liverpool lost to Milan on Saturday, there were a few positives for Slot to take from the match, not least another standout performance from Ngumoha. His fancy footwork in the lead-up to Dominik Szoboszlai’s first-half goal was exhilarating to watch, and he also won four duels, completed three of his four dribbles and recorded two key passes against the Serie A outfit (Sofascore). Nyoni’s contribution in Hong Kong mightn’t have been as noticeable as the 16-year-old’s, but he still more than held his own against the Rossoneri as he won three duels and three tackles, completed 92% of his passes and made one interception (Sofascore). Given the duo’s inexperience at senior level, their development is set to be managed gradually, with the pair likely to feature mostly for the under-21s over the next few months while potentially picking up occasional first-team minutes in domestic cup competitions. As Robertson says, though, they both appear to have an incredibly bright future ahead of them, so long as they can avoid any major injury setbacks and take on board the advice from experienced figures such as him and Salah.

The Indiana Fever’s starters turned in a strong all-around effort in Thursday’s 80-70 win over the Las Vegas Aces. The starting unit scored at least 13 points each, save for Aari McDonald, who registered nine points in 22 minutes of action. Indiana’s starters combined for 76 out of the team’s 80 points on the evening, which only means that the four other players who came off the bench accounted for just four points in the game. All that came from Sydney Colson, who went 2-of-5 in 18 minutes of playing time. Lexie Hull, Makayla Timpson and Damiris Dantas all failed to score in the win. Stephanie White Calls Out Fever's Bench Be that as it may, offense wasn’t even the biggest concern for head coach Stephanie White. In her postgame press conference, the veteran shot-caller called out Indiana’s bench for their lack of intensity on the defensive end, particularly in the first half. “Our bench has to be ready,” she said. “I felt like our bench in the second half was really good defensively. In the first half, I didn't feel that way. You got to be ready to come in and you got to be ready to guard your matchup and execute the game plan. "We have depth for a reason. White is adamant that this roster has been built for adversity, and she didn’t hesitate to put her bench on notice after Thursday’s showing.
Rangers Sign Former Stanley Cup Champion to Tryout Agreement
The New York Rangers are adding to their forward depth ahead of their upcoming training camp. The Rangers are entering a new chapter of their organization under new head coach Mike Sullivan. After missing the postseason last year, the organization is trying to rebound and respond accordingly in 2025 and 2026. Former Stanley Cup champion forward Conor Sheary is the latest player to join the new-look Rangers. The veteran forward agreed to a professional tryout agreement (PTO) with the club and will look to earn an NHL deal with his performance in training camp and the preseason. Sheary is a veteran of 593 NHL games. Originally an undrafted free agent, he signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins after completing his collegiate career. Following a year with the Penguins' AHL affiliate, he forced his way onto the NHL squad after posting 36 points in his first 30 games of the 2015-2016 season at the AHL level. His debut NHL season went better than ever expected, and he was a key part of the Penguins' lineup that won back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2016 and 2017. Sheary's coach at the time, both at the AHL and NHL levels, was Mike Sullivan. Now, he'll get the chance to reunite with the coach under whom he won two championships. In addition to playing for the Penguins, Sheary has played for three other NHL franchises. The Pens dealt him to the Buffalo Sabres before the 2018-2019 campaign, but he would return to Pittsburgh the following season at the trade deadline. After his second stint with the Penguins, he joined the Washington Capitals. He played three seasons in Washington, D.C. before landing with the Tampa Bay Lightning, where he spent the past two years. Over his 593 career games, he's compiled 124 goals and 143 assists for 267 points. His best NHL season came during the 2016-2017 campaign, his second in the league. He scored 23 goals and added 30 assists for 53 points in 61 regular-season games.
Tom Cruise rejected Interview with the Vampire sequel
Tom Cruise refused to return for the 'Interview with the Vampire' sequel. The 62-year-old actor starred in the 1994 horror picture – which is based on the 1976 Anne Rice novel of the same name - as the blood-sucking Lestat de Lioncourt, and director Neil Jordan has now revealed that a follow-up to the movie was shelved after Cruise ruled out reprising his role for another film. Speaking with Variety, the 74-year-old filmmaker said: "I was asked to write a script of 'The Vampire Lestat', which I did. And quite simply, Tom didn’t want to reprise the role. It was as simple as that. "And it would’ve been quite a different animal. If Mr. Cruise had said he would do it, I’m sure they would’ve done it. But at the time he wasn’t doing sequels." The 'Mission: Impossible' actor starred opposite Brad Pitt in the flick, who played the heartbroken widow Louis de Pointe du Lac who goes on to become a vampire after Cruise's Lestat bites him. While the 'Top Gun' star had previously joked about the homoerotic undertones between his and Pitt's characters, Jordan insisted he wanted this theme to be prevalent in the film to stay faithful to Rice's original novel. The director explained: "I just wanted to be accurate to Anne’s book. "Once Louis is turned into a vampire, he’s stuck with this companion who is half a lover, half a manipulator. And any of the sexual undertones that are there are expressed through blood, and through the desire for blood. "So I would say there is exactly the amount of eroticism, homoeroticism or otherwise, that there was in Anne’s novel. "And in fact, when I did my draft I had to reintroduce as much as I could of those elements." 'Interview with the Vampire' went on to earn an impressive $223.6 million at the worldwide box office when it hit theatres in 1994, and the moviemaker said it was "really gratifying" to have worked on such a commercially successful project.
