Wrexham has one spot left in their 25-man roster for the season, and manager Phil Parkinson revealed that the spot will be given to their player Ollie Rathbone. Rathbone has been with Wrexham since last year, where he played 41 games in League One.
With Rathbone taking the final spot, Dele Alli's potential move to Wrexham is over. It is unclear where the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder will look for other clubs in England or what other plans.
Rumors from Italy are suggesting the player is also considering retirement despite only being 29 years old.
Phil Parkinson spoke highly of Rathbone despite the player not featuring any minutes so far in the new season.
Parkinson spoke about Rathbone's experience in the Championship, which he values highly due to Wrexham qualifying for the Championship this year.
Phil Parkinson: "I think Ollie is closing in. I just wanted to make sure Ollie got through this week in training, and the signs are looking positive, and he'll be back in a couple of weeks. We need Ollie back; he's a key player for us. He was instrumental for us last year."
Parkinson mentions Rathbone's time at Rotherham United, where he spent three seasons before joining Wrexham in 2024.
Phil Parkinson: "He's a player who has played in the Championship; first year did well, second one was a difficult one at Rotherham because they had a very weak squad. But he's played at this level and when he signed for us, he was determined to get back into the Championship."
