Denmark's Christian Eriksen scores in first international match since on-field cardiac arrest

Denmark's Christian Eriksen made his return to international play Saturday more than nine months after he collapsed on the field and went into cardiac arrest during a game in June 2021.

And just two minutes after entering a friendly against the Netherlands, Eriksen drilled a shot into the top left corner of the net.

Eriksen, 30, collapsed during Denmark's first game of group play in the Euro 2020 tournament last year on June 12. In February, he made his return to club play with Brentford and told ESPN that he was convinced at one point that he'd never play soccer again.

In three club appearances this year, Eriksen hasn't yet scored a goal, but Saturday he scored the 30th goal of his international career.

Both Denmark and Netherlands have already earned spots in the 2022 World Cup. Eriksen played for Denmark in the 2010 and 2018 World Cups.
