Inter Milan have chosen Christian Chivu to be their new head coach after their pursuit of Cesc Fabregas failed.
This according to Sky Sport Italia transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio. He reports on his homepage that the Nerazzurri have informed the Romanian coach, currently at Parma, that they want him on their bench.
Inter Milan are currently working furiously to find a replacement for Simone Inzaghi.
On Monday, the 49-year-old informed the Nerazzurri that he intended to step down. He left to join Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal.
In the meantime, Inter have been working to try and convince Como Cesc Fabregas to become Inzaghi’s successor.
However, Como President Mirwan Suwarson strongly rebuffed the Nerazzurri’s interest, and stated that the Lariani would refuse to release the Spaniard.
Therefore, Inter have had to quickly work to find a new coach.
And there had been a couple of potential options. One was former Nerazzurri and Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira.
However, reports Di Marzio, Inter have instead gone in the direction of a different former Inter player.
The Sky transfer expert reports that Inter have chosen former Nerazzurri, Roma, and Ajax defender Christian Chivu.
Chivu spent six seasons with the Nerazzurri. He won the European Treble with the club in the 2009-10 season.
And following retirement from playing time, Chivu coached Inter at several youth team level.
Last season, the Romanian got his first senior coaching position with Parma.
And now, reports Di Marzio, Inter have decided to bring Christian Chivu back to replace Inzaghi.
