There is no hiding from the fact that Tottenham Hotspur have endured a tough domestic campaign. The Lilywhites finished the Premier League season just a place above the relegation zone, registering 22 losses along the way. The North London club also failed to hit the 40-point mark in the league. And one might say that they were lucky to not be involved in a relegation dogfight this year.
However, Spurs managed to save their blushes in the end by finishing the season on a high. The Lilywhites managed to end their long-standing trophy drought in the most unexpected way possible, and won the Europa League against all odds. Winning the competition also ensured that the North London club would play Champions League football next year.
But the historic achievement was not enough for Ange Postecoglou to save his job at N17. Many fans believed that the Australian tactician had done enough to remain at the helm for next season. But to everyone’s surprise, Big Ange was sacked just two weeks after the Europa League win. It is fair to say that the ex-Celtic boss threw all his eggs in one basket midway through the season, but he delivered on his promise of winning silverware in his second season at a club.
While Tottenham may have endured a tough domestic campaign this season, there is nothing to suggest that the Lilywhites are not a big club. The ‘state-of-the-art’ stadium, strong financials, amazing training centre, and huge fanbase suggest that Spurs are one of the biggest clubs in England. The North London club also managed to win silverware in their possible domestic season.
Martin Keown believes Thomas Frank would be dropping down a level to manage Spurs if he leaves Brentford#spurs #coys #tottenham pic.twitter.com/VYlaBvlm1E

However, ex-Arsenal icon Martin Keown believes Spurs are just not big enough at this point. Speaking on talkSPORT (via X), Keown said,
“This fellow is dropping down by going to Spurs. Brentford are 10th in the table. Thomas Frank has finished higher than Spurs this year in the Premier League.”
Martin Keown insisted that Thomas Frank is taking a backwards step by leaving Brentford for Tottenham. The ex-Arsenal icon pointed out that the Bees finished above Spurs this season, and Frank has no reason to leave the Gtech Stadium and head to N17. Keown also suggested that managing Spurs is not an easy task due to Daniel Levy’s incompetence and unwillingness to help the manager out.
It goes without saying that Tottenham fans will take this statement from Martin Keown with a pinch of salt. The Arsenal legend has no reason to make sense while talking about the Lilywhites due to the past history between both clubs. However, to suggest that Brentford are a better team than Spurs just does not make sense in any way.

Tottenham Hotspur are showing interest in Manchester United star Kobbie Mainoo Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move to bring Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo to Hotspur Way in the ongoing summer transfer window, and the North Londoners are still in the run given that the England international is yet to agree on a new deal at Old Trafford. The Lilywhites need to bring in a new midfielder for the current roster, as the current options at Thomas Frank’s disposal have shown to be very inconsistent over multiple campaigns, and this is where the need to bring in a new #6 comes into play at Spurs. And a recent report from TBR Football insists that the Lilywhites asked about the 20-year-old for a possible move given that no extension has been agreed upon despite the ongoing talks between the clubs for more than a year. Mainoo and Man Utd appear in a contract stalemate And the report insists that the North Londoners are still keeping tabs on his status at M16 and whether he would consider a move to Tottenham if Man United ends up being open to selling him this summer. And moreover, while Mainoo is thought to be keen to stay at Carrington, there is a distinct lack of progress on a new deal which has raised the eyebrows of many supporters at the Manchester Reds, and this could force United to consider their options. The English prodigy started only 24 games last season, which was highly hindered because of injuries, and with the 2026 World Cup just around the corner, Mainoo will be willing to get those minutes under his belt on a consistent basis, which might not be a guarantee under Ruben Amorim at M16 given how he already has Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, and Manuel Ugarte and is also looking to have more of those. Chelsea have also expressed interest in signing Mainoo And Tottenham are not alone in the race for his signature; the Blues from West London, Chelsea, have been long-time admirers, and they could reignite interest if Mainoo is made available, but as it stands (as I said before), the Manchester Reds want to keep him, but if there’s no breakthrough in contract talks, it wouldn’t be a surprise if a late-window move comes through. And Levy is preparing in case that door opens. That being said, Mainoo is not the only midfielder that the North Londoners have been looking at in the ongoing summer window, with the Lilywhites already exploring a move for Bayern Munich’s Joao Palhinha alongside Douglas Luiz, who is also a serious option.
With Mitch Marner’s move to the Vegas Golden Knights closing a major chapter in Toronto, GM Brad Treliving made a series of moves to replace his production. He might not be done. Three may be even bolder moves on the horizon. We’ve heard the names Calle Jarnkrok and David Kampf before. However, the Maple Leafs are actively fielding and exploring trade scenarios as they look to reshape their roster — and according to Nick Kypreos, a handful of intriguing names are emerging in trade chatter: Morgan Rielly, Brandon Carlo, and former Leafs fan-favorite Nazem Kadri. The most surprising name still generating buzz is Rielly. Despite being a longtime cornerstone on Toronto’s blue line, his $7.5 million cap hit and no-move clause complicate matters. Yet with the team needing help up front, and possible interest in offensive defensemen like Pittsburgh’s Erik Karlsson, Rielly could become part of a larger plan if he’s open to waiving. Also surprising is the talk surrounding Carlo. A recent addition to the Leafs’ defense corps, he is already being talked about behind the scenes as a potential trade piece. If he were made available, there is interest around the league, as the 6-foot-6 shutdown defender has a team-friendly cap hit and strong penalty-killing ability. Trading Carlo could get the Leafs a top-six forward. Finally, reports on the availability of Kadri remain conflicting. Some say he’s not available, while others suggest that the Calgary Flames would consider the idea. The former Maple Leaf would be a welcome addition back to Toronto, but there isn’t much of a reason for the Flames to trade him unless the return is outstanding. Kadri reportedly would consider waiving his no-move clause for a reunion. That said, getting a deal done won’t be easy, especially with Montreal also rumored to be on his short list. Whether any of these deals come to pass or are just pure speculation, one thing’s sure: the Maple Leafs aren’t standing still. Treliving is trying to get his roster to score more goals. He seems willing to entertain any idea and play Moneyball with the roster if it will help.
The Washington Commanders have an open door of opportunities when it comes to the wide receiver room especially with Terry McLaurin absent from practice as he continues his contract holdout. In the meantime, somebody needs to step up during training camp and earn the trust from quarterback Jayden Daniels and hopefully become an option for the offense during the season. The first player to impress as practice kicked off in Ashburn, Virginia today happened to be undrafted rookie wide receiver Ja'Corey Brooks and that shouldn't surprise anyone. Ja'Corey Brooks is wasting no time fighting for a roster spot I know it's only been one practice, but that's all it took for fan-favorite undrafted rookie Brooks to hear his name mentioned on many occasions from the local media on site. Washington has a lot of questions on who can contribute this season when it comes to depth and a hungry Brooks can show his ability to track the ball and become a reliable target. Today he gained some extra respect from both Jayden Daniels and Marcus Mariota by catching a touchdown from the two quarterbacks during team drills. There will be plenty of opportunities for Brooks to continue to impress the coaching staff and build a connection with the quarterbacks as training camp progresses. Training camp will only ramp up from here on out, and he can continue to develop and learn the systems the coaching staff has implemented. The Commanders will add pads to practice starting July 29 and then compete against the New England Patriots and Baltimore Ravens in joint practices. The unsung hero of the WR room in Washington Practice prepares you for the moments that matter the most and we saw many rookies contribute last season and exceed expectations. A couple big plays in the Commanders' three preseason games can help boost Brooks into the final cuts before the season. Washington is the oldest team in the league and desperately needs to find key players to mold the young core of the team as well, so Brooks can put himself in the conversation as a piece for the future as well. Training camp may have just started, but it's never too early for an undrafted rookie to catch the attention of the coaching staff and media while Terry McLaurin continues to hold out for a new contract. Brooks has already been on my radar and will be a player worth keeping a close eye on throughout the rest of the offseason.
NBA reporter Keith Smith of Spotrac spoke to a San Antonio Spurs front office executive who said the franchise is “hopeful” of signing De’Aaron Fox to an extension. The Spurs can sign Fox to a four-year, $229 million extension starting on August 3. “When we made that trade, we knew what the contract status was, of course,” the Spurs front office executive said. “We see De’Aaron as someone who can grow with our young players and be a real leader for us. We’re hopeful we can make something happen to keep him in San Antonio for a long time.” The Spurs acquired De’Aaron Fox from the Sacramento Kings on February 3. Fox appeared in 17 games with San Antonio before undergoing season-ending surgery to repair tendon damage in his left pinkie. He averaged 19.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 6.8 assists. A one-time All-Star, Fox played in 62 games with the Kings and Spurs last season. He averaged 23.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 6.3 assists while shooting 46.3% from the field, 31.0% from beyond the arc and 82.7% from the free-throw line. Fox will make $37.1 million next season in the final year of his contract. The 27-year-old has career averages of 21.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 6.1 assists with the Kings and Spurs. The Spurs haven’t made the playoffs since 2019. However, they have a bright future with Fox, Victor Wembanyama, Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper leading the way. “We were so fortunate to have that luck in the lottery. Getting Dylan was just one of those things that happens and you’re so thankful for it. It was a cameo out here (Las Vegas), but you can see how special he is. A terrific competitor and I know our coaches are excited about watching him and De’Aaron and Stephon battling it out and making each other better,” the Spurs front office executive said.
