The Houston Dynamo acquired Brazilian top-flight defender Lucas Halter on Monday.
Halter, 25, arrives from Botafogo and is under contract through 2029-30 with an option for 2030-31.
He will occupy an international roster slot in Houston after tallying 17 goals in 219 matches in Brazil since 2019.
Halter helped Botafogo win the Brazilian Serie A and Copa Libertadores championships in 2024 and captained Vitoria during a season-long loan in 2025.
"Lucas arrives as a proven winner and respected leader, having anchored title-winning teams at top clubs in South America," Dynamo president of soccer Pat Onstad said. "He has shown the ability to anchor a backline and exhibit the kind of leadership and mentality we are committed to bringing into Houston.
"We are thrilled to welcome him to the Dynamo and confident he will raise the standard both on and off the field as we continue building a team ready to compete for trophies."
The Dynamo open the 2026 MLS season at home against the Chicago Fire on Feb. 21.
