Earlier today, Manchester United agreed terms to sign Andrey Santos for Chelsea, making it their second agreement after their deal with Atalanta for Ederson.
The Red Devils saw a bid of £35 million meet the expectations of Atalanta, with Ederson set for his medical assessment after the 2026 World Cup.
United have been tracking the midfielder for several years now, having been first linked with the star in 2024, and now, were seemingly set to get their man.
That was, however, until the recent news from Felipe Silva emerged on X.
The ESPN Brazil reporter has revealed that the plans around Ederson’s move to Old Trafford have stalled, and the thinking is now, the move will not be completed.
Unfortunately this is echoing reports which emerged earlier this week, only giving more weight to the potential of the deal collapsing.
This would be a blow for United who have already missed out on targets like Mateus Fernandes, Sandro Tonali and Elliot Anderson.
Thankfully, Santos is set to arrive from Chelsea, bringing with him Premier League experience, something Ederson lacks, with United also keeping a keen eye on Alex Scott.
Bournemouth aren’t keen to lose their star midfielder, however Scott recently rejected a new contract with The Cherries, opening the door for a potential move.
Should the deal for Ederson fall through, this would give more funds for United to meet Bournemouth’s £80 million price tag for Scott, with him being only £45 million more than the Brazil international.
It’s also been confirmed that Manchester United are still set on making three midfield signings this summer, so if the move for Ederson does collapse, we could see The Red Devils head back to their shortlist.
