Irrespective of whether Michael Carrick is still at the helm or not, Manchester United are expected to partake in a busy summer of both incomings and outgoings.
Though, the average member of the Old Trafford faithful would tell you that the managerial appointment is the most important decision of them all.
Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Senne Lammens and Benjamin Sesko have all become valuable members of the squad in their maiden campaigns – but can the club replicate the same recruitment success 12 months down the line?
It’ll take some doing to top last summer’s transfer window in terms of new faces in the squad, but it could be outshone in regard to players that United are looking to offload to would-be buyers.
Because of the fanfare and exciting over new signings, many supporters ignore the selling process – but this summer, it could be critical to further success.
In fact, selling a number of players would free up space and funds for one or two of Sandro Tonali, Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes.
A shiny, new midfielder is expected to be the club’s marquee addition – but the outgoings will be just as important.
And, according to The Sun, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has demanded a major squad re-shuffle ahead of the 2026/27 season, which could include the return of Manchester United in the Champions League.
The Old Trafford figurehead is expected to encourage a fire sale, which would total a potential £100 million.
Casemiro has already announced that he’ll be leaving this summer as a free agent after four years of service – and the Brazilian will be joined by Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia, who will both leave on a free.
Although the club will not receive a transfer fee for their respective departures, freeing up their wages will be a huge boost in their pursuit of key summer targets.
The report also states that Andre Onana, Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford – all of whom are currently on loan – will be sold.
Hojlund joining Napoli and Rashford making his Barcelona move permanent will hopefully see the club pocket £64 million.
That would mean that receiving £19 million from the departure of Andre Onana would see them avoid a Profit and Sustainability blow, The Sun have included in their report.
Elsewhere, it seems as if Joshua Zirkzee’s time at Old Trafford is up after struggling to nail down a spot in the starting line-up.
The additions of Cunha, Mbeumo and Sesko have only dampened the Dutchman’s chances of making it even further. Also leaving will be Manuel Ugarte, whose £50.8 million has been a disaster.
