Elliot Anderson officially unveiled by Manchester City

Elliot Anderson has been officially unveiled by Manchester City after the ten-time Premier League champions confirmed the signing from Nottingham Forest.

The 23-year-old midfielder has signed a five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium after establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s standout midfielders over the past two seasons.

Anderson had also been linked with Manchester United earlier this summer as Michael Carrick looked to strengthen his midfield, but the England international has instead chosen a move across Manchester.

Manchester City confirmed the transfer and unveiling on their official website, with Anderson describing the club as “one of the biggest in the world” after completing the move.

“As soon as I knew they wanted me, I was absolutely determined to make this move happen,” he said.

Director of Football Hugo Viana also described Anderson as “one of the outstanding young midfield talents in world football.”

Manchester United, meanwhile, remain active in their search for midfield reinforcements despite missing out on Anderson.

The Red Devils have already strengthened the department this summer with the arrivals of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.

However, Carrick is still expected to add a third midfielder before the transfer window closes as preparations continue for the new Premier League season.

Anderson brings significant Premier League experience despite his age, having already made 174 senior club appearances.

Last season, he covered 411 kilometres and completed 2,080 passes, the most by any midfielder in the division.

He also registered 104 tackles, highlighting the energy and defensive intensity that attracted City.

Elliot Anderson made 50 appearances across all competitions in the 2025/26 season for Nottingham Forest.

The midfielder will now link up with Enzo Maresca after returning from international duty with England.

United must therefore continue assessing alternatives as Carrick looks to complete his midfield rebuild before the new campaign begins.
