England’s 2026 World Cup quarter-final tie with Norway is just around the corner. It is one of the most highly-anticipated games that the Three Lions have been involved in for years – but who will be available for it?
As things stand, five of England’s 26-man squad could miss out on the Norway game. This isn’t including Tino Livramento, who was sent home earlier on in the tournament with a calf injury to be replaced by Trevoh Chalobah [via BBC Sport].
A couple of them have been regular starters for the Three Lions throughout the competition – who is set to miss out on this climactic tie?
Reece James has struggled with injury issues throughout his entire career – sadly, the 2026 World Cup has not proven to be an outlier.
However, good news might finally be on the horizon for the Chelsea man. Despite having missed out on England’s last three games, he might finally be ready to return to the starting XI on Saturday evening.
According to a report from The Sun , James took part in a full training session on Thursday and may now be fully fit. It remains to be seen if Thomas Tuchel will risk his inclusion, but it is a good sign nonetheless.
Marc Guehi has been an absolute rock at the back for England. Comfortably the better of the two centre-backs alongside the shaky Ezri Konsa, he could nevertheless miss out on the Norway fixture.
BBC Sport has reported that the Manchester City man picked up a hamstring injury during England’s 3-2 win over Mexico – his fitness will be assessed today.
Guehi himself is staying ‘optimistic’ in regard to his fitness, while Tuchel claims the issue is ‘not serious’, but he will struggle against Erling Haaland if he has an injury of this nature.
Jarell Quansah isn’t injured, but has been handed a two-match suspension after he was shown a red card in England’s last 16 win over Mexico.
When attempting a lunging tackle on Mexico’s Jesus Gallardo, he successfully won the ball, but also followed through with his studs facing upwards.
As such, the next England game that the former Liverpool man will be available for will be the World Cup final – if they make it that far.
We all know what happened here. During England’s post-match celebrations on the pitch against Mexico, Jordan Henderson dealt himself a serious – and graphic – injury.
In an ill-fated attempt to vault over the advertising board, Henderson slipped, landing on his wrist. The impact caused it to snap completely in half.
As a result, the Brentford man was sent home to receive surgery – it is now highly likely that he’ll spend an extended period on the sidelines.
This one could be the most damning blow of all. Declan Rice isn’t just one of England’s best players – the Arsenal ace is one of the best footballers in the world.
Yet, nevertheless, he could be unavailable to face Norway on Saturday. Again reported by The Sun, Rice has picked up a ‘sickness bug’ which has exacerbated an existing hamstring and lower back issue.
He has missed two days of training due to this. As one of the Three Lions’ star players, England fans will be biting their nails over whether Rice will have a part to play or not.
