Enzo Fernandez has now embarrassed Liam Rosenior by flirting with Real Madrid again, after the manager protected him the first time.
Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez caused a bit of a storm two weeks ago when he openly admitted to an Argentine reporter that he wasn’t sure if his future was at Chelsea. Links with Real Madrid have been around for a while, and certainly wouldn’t be going anywhere after this.
His manager Liam Rosenior had to defend him in a press conference after that, claiming that his vice captain was speaking in the heat of the moment, after a painful Champions League elimination.
Well now there can be no excuses. Enzo has done it again, this time midway through an international break with no pressure on him:
“I’d like to live in Spain, I really like Madrid; it reminds me of Buenos Aires,” he replied, very clearly flirting with the idea of leaving Chelsea and joining Madrid.
“Players live where they want. I’d live in Madrid. I get by in English, but I’d be more comfortable in Spanish.”
This time there can be no defending it. He’s taken his manager for a fool, and is doing similar with Chelsea fans who are paying his wages. He needs to be disciplined – you can’t have your vice captain and a keystone of your project speaking this openly about how he wants to be elsewhere.
