Enzo Fernandez must be enjoying his time at Chelsea these days, especially after how last season played out.

The club ended up with two major trophies and a fourth-place finish in the Premier League, which would have been hard to predict at the start of the campaign.

He has talent around him too, playing alongside Moises Caicedo and Cole Palmer.

Even with talk linking him to Real Madrid, it does not seem like Fernandez will be looking to leave Stamford Bridge anytime soon. There is a lot to like about his situation right now.

During a session on The Residency, an app that connects fans with players, Fernandez was asked if he thinks Caicedo is now the world’s best No.6.

His response was clear: “Sí (yes)”.

The stats certainly help back up his claim.

According to FBref, Caicedo averages 2.98 tackles and 1.58 interceptions per 90 minutes, placing him in the 92nd and 94th percentiles among midfielders in those categories.

Even with those numbers, Jamie Carragher still left Caicedo out of his Premier League Team of the Season so far.

The former Liverpool defender later apologised to Chelsea supporters for overlooking the Ecuadorian, but explained his reasons behind the choice.

Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo have a strong connection

It is no shock that Fernandez rates Caicedo so highly. The pair have developed a solid relationship on and off the pitch.

Speaking about Caicedo last month, Fernandez said: “We know how important he is, and also the humility that he has. A person who always wants to learn, always wants to help you. The connection is very good.”

This season has seen Fernandez pushed into a more advanced role at times, partly due to Palmer’s injury issues.

Still, when both are available, they offer Chelsea real balance in midfield. Maresca seems likely to stick with them as a pairing against teams outside the top tier of the league.

Their next match is not one of those occasions, though, with Aston Villa currently sitting near the top of the table.
