Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has named the surprise Chelsea player as the reason they achieved what they achieved last season.

Many would jump to this article and expect to hear someone like Cole Palmer or Moises Caicedo, but Maresca has named a surprise player as the reason.

It comes off the back of another summer transfer window closing after what was a dramatic period for Chelsea and everyone around the club.

Players missed out on moves, others had their moves up in the air, and Chelsea didn’t bring in any new players other than a dry loan midfielder in from Brighton.

One player who missed out on a move was winger Tyrique George, with his proposed move to Fulham collapsing at the final stages. And it’s already been reported that he will now be part of Chelsea’s Champions League squad this season, but we can assume that means IF he doesn’t go and join another new club with the transfer window still open.

But now that is all over, focus will turn to the current new season that we are now three games into already.

Maresca praises Chalobah

Maresca has been full of praise for the Chelsea academy graduate.

He said:

“Since he came back in January, he’s doing very well.”

“The reason why we achieved what we achieved last season is also because of Trev. In the final against PSG in the CWC, he was top and he is doing very well and we are happy with him.”

The defender will be very important

Since Chelsea are without the injured Levi Colwill for a chunk of this season, Chalobah is going to be very important for The Blues this season and going forward.
