When it comes to winning individual awards, not even the mighty Erling Haaland can rival Lionel Messi. The Argentine most recently beat Haaland to the FIFA The Best Award back in January, and has made a habit of winning every single individual accolade available following his World Cup triumph in 2022. In spite of his father Alf-Inge Haaland’s disapproving reaction to Messi’s win, Haaland showed that he is humble in defeat. What started off as a simple QnA session ended in him hailing the No.10 as the greatest of all time.
Fans have debated time and again as to who Haaland thinks is the best. While fans of either faction engage in raging debates on social media, the Norwegian put an end to the discussion once and for all. When asked if Messi had to retire for him to finally win an individual award, Haaland’s response was priceless.
It's true. He won it (FIFA The Best). He won the World cup and I think he's the best that's ever played. Erling Haaland speaking in a press conference via SkySportsPL

Haaland is currently on 18 Premier League goals and is the league top scorer. His side are within a point of Liverpool and an emphatic performance against Manchester United to top it off, things couldn’t be better for the 23-year-old. With Messi playing in the MLS, a season marginally similar to what he did last year can put him in pole position to win the Ballon d’Or and the FIFA The Best Award in 2024.
Erling Haaland’s goal scoring abilities are unquestionable. The Norwegian quite literally broke the record for most goals scored in a single Premier League season in his debut season. If that doesn’t tell enough, one can also look at how the No.9 is nothing different from last year, and leads the top scorer race this season as well. However, his unbelievable miss against Manchester United remains a hot topic among fans, and when asked about the same, elicited a witty response from the player.
Haaland candidly replied that his season can be seen in one of two ways. On the one hand, he is the league top scorer and leading the golden boot race. On the other hand, he misses a lot of chances.
I've been missing. I miss a lot of chances. I would still keep on missing chances and still score goals. I'll probably miss a big chance in the future as well Erling Haaland via SkySportsPL

The Norwegian’s next game is against Copenhagen in the UEFA Champions League. The Cityzens are in the advantage after winning the first leg 3-1. Three days later, Manchester City make the trip to Anfield in what is dubbed to be the title decider. With his innate ability to find the net and the red hot form that he’s in, all hopes will ride on the No.9 to push his side past Liverpool and into top spot in the Premier League.
