Tottenham Hotspur bolstered their forward department during the winter transfer window by signing Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich.
Spurs do have an option to buy Tel at the end of the season, but the decision will purely lie with the Frenchman, whether he wants to make his move permanent in North London or return to Bayern Munich.
The North London club are planning to revamp the attacking unit in the summer. The club chiefs are reportedly open to offloading Son Heung-min, Timo Werner and Richarlison and replacing them adequately in Ange Postecoglou’s squad. And Spurs have reportedly identified Rangers striker Hamza Igamane as an option to potentially replace Richarlison.
Tottenham have been keeping tabs on the performances of Hamza Igamane since the turn of the year. Ange Postecoglou has missed Richarlison for the majority of the campaign, and as a result, there was no one to operate as a backup for Dominic Solanke. And when Solanke suffered a knee injury in January and missed over a month’s action, Postecoglou used Tel through the middle, and the youngster struggled.
Thus, Daniel Levy needs to bring in a reliable striker who can cover and compete with Solanke next season. Igamane appears to be a good fit, having impressed for Rangers this season with 14 goals and three assists in 37 games across all competitions. He has led the Gers’ attack well, catching the eye especially with his combination of pace, power and strength.
Now, according to a report from TEAMtalk, the Moroccan striker has emerged as a target for Everton. In fact, the 22-year-old is one of the players under serious consideration by Everton as they eye a long-term replacement for Dominic Calvert-Lewin. At this moment, the Toffees are at the front of the queue to sign Igamane from Rangers.
Rangers signed Igamane in a £2.5m deal from Moroccan side AS FAR last summer. The youngster’s stock has risen steeply in just nine months, with the Scottish giants now valuing him at over £20m. At such a value, a player of Igamane’s talent and potential would be a bargain for any club.
However, securing his signature won’t be straightforward for Tottenham. With Everton seemingly leading the race to sign Igamane, Daniel Levy and Co. must start their work and put in serious effort to convince the young striker that the Hotspur Way is the right destination for his next step. If Levy can convince Igamane to join Spurs ahead of David Moyes’s Everton, it would represent a fantastic move.
