Tottenham Hotspur have already been locked in a complicated midfield pursuit of Morgan Gibbs-White in the ongoing summer transfer window, but Everton are set to make the Lilywhites pursuit of yet another midfielder more complex as the Merseysiders step up their pursuit of landing Serie A star Douglas Luiz.
The North Londoners have been looking to sign a new #6 in the ongoing off-season as they look to add more stability in the middle of the park under the incoming Danish head coach Thomas Frank. Given the fact that we saw a lot of vulnerability on the defensive side of things in the midfield with Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr last season, it is important to bring in a high-ceiling defensive midfielder to complement all the offensive signings that the Lilywhites have been making in the ongoing campaign.
And there were reports last week suggesting the Premier League heavyweights are interested in trying to bring back Douglas Luiz to the English top tier as the Brazilian midfielder expresses a desire to leave Juventus this summer. There were reports Fabio Paratici has been aware of the fact that the former Aston Villa midfielder wants to move to N17 as the chiefs at Hotspur Way look to add a defensive midfielder to the current roster.
In a recent report by Calciomercato , Everton are said to be among several clubs keeping an eye on Luiz’ situation in Turin this summer, and the report follows that David Moyes’ side have become the first club to make a formal move to secure his signature. It is said now that both the clubs are sitting for formal negotiations in order to come to possible common ground for Luiz’s transfer. Juventus are looking for a fee around €40m (£35m) for the Brazilian after having paid €50m (£42.4m) to sign him from Aston Villa about a year ago.
But all is not lost for Tottenham, as Everton are looking to sign Luiz on an initial loan deal, while Juventus are preferring an immediate sale, and this is where Daniel Levy can showcase his financial flex.
