Yann Sommer says that Inter Milan will “do everything” to win back the Serie A title from Napoli over the coming season.

The 36-year-old spoke to the official Serie A YouTube channel, via FCInterNews . He also priased Nerazzurri coach Cristian Chivu for bringing “new ideas.”

Inter Milan are just a few weeks away from the start of their Serie A season.

The Nerazzurri kick off their campaign against Torino on Monday. They host the Granata at the San Siro in their first match of the season.

This will be the first Serie A match in charge of Inter for new coach Cristian Chivu.

Meanwhile, some new faces who have arrived during the summer transfer window will also have a chance to make their debuts.

Inter came agonizingly close to winning the Serie A title last season. However, they lost out by just a single point to Napoli on the final day of the campaign.

Therefore, Chivu will have the task of trying to return Inter to the summit of Italian football in his first season at the helm of the club with whom he spent six years as a player.

Yann Sommer: “Inter Will Do Everything To Win Back The Serie A Title”

Inter keeper Yann Sommer noted that “we want to win the Scudetto and the Coppa Italia.”

“And obviously we want to go all the way in the Champions League as well,” he added.

Sommer called winning the Serie A title in the 2023-24 season a “great memory” but noted that “you can’t live on memories.”

Meanwhile, “last season was an incredible journey.”

“It was very tiring for us to be in contention for everything right until the end,” Sommer admitted. “But we want to do it again and compete for all our goals.”

“Now it’s our turn to try and catch up. And we’ll do everything to win back our title.”

Sommer Praises Chivu For “New Ideas”

Meanwhille, Sommer also gave his thoughts on the change in coach at Inter this summer.

“We had a great time under Inzaghi,” he said. “I played under him for two years, and it was fantastic.”

“Obviously last season we missed two targets just out of reach. But it was also a happy time.”

“Now we have Chivu,” Sommer said. “A new coach who brings completely new ideas and a different way of speaking and interacting with us.”

“We’re very happy,” said Sommer. “He’s a coach who transmits a lot of energy on the pitch.”

“He’s not afraid to raise his voice. But he’s also very calm and approachable. It’s easy to talk to him about things off the pitch as well.”

Sommer said of Chivu that “In the last few months, I’ve realized that he’s a coach with very high expectations – he demands the utmost professionalism.”

“He asks for us to always be ready. To be successful we need to work on even the smallest details.”

“He hasn’t asked me to do anything different from what I was already doing,” said Sommer. “He wants a goalkeeper who is good in buildup play.”

“Because if we do that well we help the team defensively. That’s what he asks from me as a goalkeeper.”
