Daniele Adani has urged Inter Milan to allow star center-forward Lautaro Martinez to rest amid a brutal fixture schedule.

Speaking to Domenica Sportiva via FCInterNews, the former Nerazzurri midfielder warned the club about El Toro’s fatigue issues.

Lautaro Martinez is more than just Inter’s captain. Indeed, he has been the team’s on-field leader for years.

His goals proved decisive in securing the 2020/21 and 2023/24 title-winning campaigns.

Given his unparalleled significance to the team, the 28-year-old has rarely had a chance to rest. As a result he sustained several injuries last season.

However, new manager Cristian Chivu continues to rely heavily on the Argentina superstar. Indeed, the Nerazzurri skipper started last weekend’s game against Juventus despite feeling back pain. Therefore, he had to come off midway through the second half. Furthermore, Lautaro’s back problem forced Chivu to bench him in a 2-0 Champions League win at Ajax on Wednesday. Yet, he replaced Marcus Thuram in yesterday’s victory over Sassuolo, entering the fray just after the hour mark.

Daniele Adani Urges Inter Milan to Let Lautaro Martinez Rest

“This is a player who almost never takes a break,” Adani claimed. “Between the Copa America and World Cup qualifiers, he didn’t miss a single game” Adani said.

“Against Barcelona, he scores almost while stretched. But at some point, the body demands rest.”

Then, Adani took stock of the ongoing San Siro saga.

Despite AC Milan and Inter’s joint effort, their hopes of purchasing the stadium and the surrounding areas remain in limbo.

“The Meazza is football; San Siro is history,” Adani added. “Playing there is hard to describe; it must be passed down.”

Meanwhile, Beppe Marotta yesterday warned the city of Milan to expedite the process.

Indeed, the Inter president is desperate to close the deal on short notice.

Milan and Inter are keen to build a new state-of-the-art stadium, but the city continues to play hardball on the San Siro sale.
