Inter Miami is under fire from former MLS player Mateusz Klich, who claims the club isn’t the right place for players to join. The 35-year-old midfielder criticized the way the club’s administration is being handled.
The idea of founding a Major League Soccer (MLS) team was conceived when David Beckham signed a contract with LA Galaxy in 2007.
Upon joining the Galaxy from Real Madrid, Beckham negotiated a unique clause in his contract that granted him the option to purchase an MLS expansion franchise at a discounted rate of $25 million upon his retirement from playing.
This clause was a significant factor in the establishment of Inter Miami CF, as Beckham exercised this option in 2014 to bring an MLS team to Miami.
Over a decade later, the team was officially founded, and the expansion draft allowed Miami to select multiple players. Things didn’t go smoothly at first, so Beckham began bringing in big names like Gonzalo Higuaín and Blaise Matuidi in 2020 to help develop the club on the pitch.
Eventually, Inter Miami managed to sign stars such as Luis Suárez, Jordi Alba, Rodrigo De Paul, Sergio Busquets, and Lionel Messi — who, according to Klich, along with his father, wields significant influence behind the scenes.
"I advise against Miami while Messi is there. It's a disaster of a club, people are fleeing from there... Organizationally, it's bad there," Klitch said in a recent interview for Sport.pl
"Messi's father is the one who really runs the club. Everyone speaks Spanish and nothing can be done without their consent."
Messi’s father, Jorge, was his agent in the early stages of Lionel’s career, but eventually stepped aside for a professional to handle contract negotiations. Meanwhile, he remains very active in every decision his son makes.

Mateusz Klich didn't hold back when it started to name teams that players heading to the MLS should join. While New York City and New York Red Bulls are he's a favourite destination because of what the clubs and the city provides to the athletes, he also thinks other clubs are worth to join - but their locations, not so much.
"I would recommend New York. Red Bull now has a better stadium, but City is also building an awesome stadium. There are clubs like Columbus Crew and Cincinnati that have great stadiums and great facilities, but the place itself is very boring to live in."
While Klich was real about how he feels about Ohio, he wasn't so polite when reflected on Portland and Seattle.
"I would recommend Nashville if you have the option of Nashville SC. It's a beautiful place, the capital of country music. Portland and Seattle have a great atmosphere, but they're at the end of the world," he said.
The midfielder spent parts of three seasons in the MLS. While Klich made his name at Leeds United, he joined D.C. United in 2023 and played two seasons there before being traded to Atlanta United in December 2024, in exchange for the 23rd overall pick in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft.
