How Ryan Mason is serving as West Bromwich Albion boss, six months after leaving Tottenham Hotspur.

Ryan Mason’s long-term association with Tottenham Hotspur – first as an academy product, then a senior squad member, an academy coach, and finally as a first-team coach – came to an end in the summer on a high, as the north Londoners beat Manchester United in the Europa League final in Bilbao.

Championship club West Bromwich Albion offered Ryan Mason his first gig as a permanent first-team coach role, which he could not turn down. This led to him leaving Tottenham in the summer and taking up the West Brom job. However, things have not been going as per the plan for the Englishman.

While West Brom started the season well, they currently find themselves in a rut. They have dropped to 16th in the Championship after a run of just one win in their last five league matches. The Baggies’ impressive and fast start to life under Ryan Mason now appears a distant memory in the eyes of many.

According to an exclusive report from Football Insider, West Brom will consider the future of their manager, Ryan Mason, if they are dragged into a relegation dogfight. The Baggies are eight points above the danger zone in the Championship, and the hierarchy will rethink their stance regarding the 34-year-old if the gap is trimmed significantly in the coming weeks.

The West Midlands outfit were beaten 3-2 by Southampton last weekend, having found themselves 3-0 down inside 35 minutes after a disastrous first-half showing at St Mary’s Stadium. While the team showed courage and spirit to pull two back, it was not enough eventually, as the Baggies suffered back-to-back league defeats.

West Brom’s form away from home has been a big cause of concern among the club’s key decision-makers. Yet, the report adds they are backing Mason to turn the club’s fortunes around. The ex-Spurs youth coach retains the support of the Championship outfit for now, but that could change if the team’s situation worsens during the festive period.

Mason should be given time to get West Brom out of the precarious position

The majority of the West Brom fans appear frustrated and believe it is time for a change in the dugout, but Mason still thinks he is the right man for the club and backs himself to get them out of the rut.

Asked if he was the man to turn around Albion’s poor form, Mason told The Express & Star:

“Yeah, I do. Otherwise, trust me, I wouldn’t be sitting here.

“I believe. I probably believe in this group more than they believe in themselves at the minute. I have massive belief in this group, absolutely.

“I have massive belief in what we’re going. But, of course, I understand football.”

For now, it looks like the former Tottenham midfielder will get Friday evening’s match against Sheffield United at home. However, Mason’s position at the Hawthorns is becoming untenable, and he must quickly finda solution to his team’s problems or face the axe. Spurs fans would be desperate to see one of their turn it around at West Brom and taste rich success.
