USMNT star Christian Pulisic is currently navigating a difficult dry spell, having yet to score a goal for both AC Milan and the national team this year.
The 27-year-old remains a central figure in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans for the upcoming World Cup, and he has recently been open about his frustration regarding his current form.
“It’s frustrating. But I am just going to stay positive. I have a lot of big things ahead and I know I’m going to get to the other side and things are going to click.” Pulisic told the media earlier after USMNT’s loss to Portugal.
Former USMNT players and soccer legends have also recently debated Christian Pulisic’s dip in form.
Christian Pulisic recently featured for the Stars and Stripes in a pair of tough outings against Belgium and Portugal, which saw the U.S. fall 2-5 and 0-2 respectively.
The 27-year-old struggled to impact the scoreboard in both matches, extending a goalless drought for the national team that reaches back to November 2024.
Addressing the forward's recent struggles, former USMNT star Herculez Gomez offered a blunt assessment of his current form.
"Christian Pulisic’s not good right now. And that’s okay, every footballer goes through this. But let's call a spade a spade. He’s not a good footballer for Milan right now and not a good footballer for the US Men's National Team in terms of productivity." he said.
Herculez Gomez also voiced concerns about Pulisic’s mental state as the World Cup approaches.
"The chances are there, so sooner or later that will be unlocked. I’m more worried about where he’s at mentally. Mauricio Pochettino may have wanted to get Christian Pulisic higher up the field to get him a goal, to get him out of this slump, but in doing so he puts Christian Pulisic in a position that he’s not comfortable with."
The 44-year-old believes that the physical and tactical demands of Pulisic's current role are taking a toll on the forward.
"And coming from a guy who’s played that position a lot, there’s a lot of dirty work and a lot goes unnoticed, and that frustrated him."
