Ex-Vanderbilt kicker Sarah Fuller signs with Minnesota Aurora FC

Many college football fans will remember how former Vanderbilt women's soccer starting goalkeeper Sarah Fuller made history during the 2020 season when she became the first woman to compete in and score in an official Power Five football game after the Commodores' roster was struck by COVID-19 setbacks.

Fuller made another historic move Monday when she became the first Minnesota Aurora FC player. Per Caitlin Murray of ESPN, Minnesota is part of the semi-professional USL W League that is set to begin play in May.

Fuller confirmed the news on Twitter:

Most recently, Fuller joined the University of North Texas soccer team as a graduate transfer for the 2021 season.

"Sarah is a fantastic player and an even better person," Minnesota head coach Nicole Lukic said for the prepared statement. "This club is committed to creating the most professional playing and development opportunity for women across the country and having a leader like Sarah that has broken down barriers and shown such grit and determination is a perfect fit for us. We are thrilled to have her as a leader on the field and in the locker room."

Fuller was famously named a Southeastern Conference Co-Special Teams Player of the Week in November 2020 for her efforts in serving as Vanderbilt's primary placekicker in a loss to the Missouri Tigers. The 22-year-old converted a pair of extra points during her tenure with the football program.

"I’m excited to be a part of a club that was built by the community," Fuller added in the statement. "To see so many people come together and support a women’s soccer club is magical and speaks to the growth of women’s sports today. I’m also excited to be in an environment that will challenge me and prepare me for the next level."
