Chelsea and Real Madrid may have to consider some unorthodox tactics if they both want to get the best out of the Enzo situation.
Our writer Simon Phillips really comes into his own in the summer months, with his sources bringing exclusive news constantly from behind the scenes at Chelsea.
Right now he’s all over the Enzo Fernandez situation, and today he’s got word of some of the potential workings of the deal.
We all know the score – the widespread briefings yesterday made it all clear. Enzo wants to leave, Chelsea are willing to let him go, but only for £120m. Real Madrid want him, but aren’t willing to pay that much.
One potential solution to that impasse would be a player trade. Chelsea let Enzo go for £80m rather than £120m (for example), then sign a player with a £40m discount the other way.
Phillips says that Chelsea have an interest in Dean Huijsen (who they themselves tried to sign a year ago) and Aurelian Tchouameni.
As always, these multi part deals are complicated and feel impossible to pull off. But when all parties involved want the same thing, anything is possible…
Romeo Lavia is being lined up by other clubs, and while we’re sure Chelsea would love to sell, it may prove more difficult than that.Robert Sanchez is apparently set to kick up a fuss if he’s made to compete for his number one spot this season.
