Football Italia can exclusively confirm the agreement has been reached between Roma and Hellas Verona for Daniele Ghilardi, worth €10.5m plus €1m in add-ons.

A conference call this evening managed to finalise the details and the clubs will exchange documentation on Friday.

At that point, Ghilardi can be released to travel to the Eternal City and undergo his medical tests, then sign the contract.

Ghilardi first choice for Roma defence under Gasperini

The negotiations had been going for the defender over the last couple of weeks and several proposals were rejected, starting at €9m.

Part of the concern for Verona was that they owe 50 per cent of the transfer fee to his previous club Fiorentina, as part of the deal that saw him move to the Stadio Bentegodi for just €380,000 in 2022.

He had loan experiences at Mantova and Sampdoria before making his mark in Serie A last season.

Ghilardi was considered ideal for Gian Piero Gasperini’s three-man defence at Roma.
