Football Italia can exclusively reveal that 2006 Italy World Cup winners Alberto Gilardino and Daniele De Rossi are the primary candidates to replace Inter-bound Christian Chivu at Parma.

Gilardino and De Rossi, two members of the Italy squad that won the World Cup in 2006, are Parma’s primary candidates to replace Chivu.

Football Italia understands that Chivu has put contract talks with Parma on hold as he waits for the Nerazzurri’s offer.

The former defender was appointed at the Stadio Tardini in February, making his Serie A debut as a coach and securing survival with the Ducali.

Leading Parma candidates to replace Chivu revealed

The former Inter defender has been approached by his former club to replace Simone Inzaghi, after Como confirmed they would not let Cesc Fabregas leave.

Sources tell Football Italia that Parma have already sounded out both Gilardino and De Rossi. The latter would have been the main option for Como if Fabregas had moved to Inter.

Ex-Torino coach Paolo Vanoli is also in the frame, but the Italy World Cup winners are the current front runners for the job at the Stadio Tardini.

Vanoli was officially sacked by Torino on Thursday, with the Granata appointing former Lazio boss Marco Baroni.

Gilardino is a former Genoa coach, while De Rossi was sacked by Roma this past September after an eight-month spell in the capital.
