Manchester United have already had an eventful start to 2026.

On 5th January, head coach Ruben Amorim was relieved of his duties.

This came a day after a 1-1 draw with Leeds United at Elland Road.

Darren Fletcher has come in as caretaker, but failed to win any of his two games in charge.

Including these two, United have won just twice in their last eight games, their last victory coming on Boxing Day in a 1-0 win against Newcastle United at Old Trafford.

Michael Carrick seems set to become interim manager at United, despite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer initially being heavily linked with the job.

There has also been unrest off the pitch, for United with Sir Jim Ratcliffe drawing criticism from fans of OGC Nice, the other team that he owns.

In a Centre Devils exclusive, we understand that Connor Hunter is set to be the new head of recruitment.

Already at the club as the national scouting manager, this is going to be an internal change at the football club as they look to progress the club forward.

The news comes after Paul Midgley rejected United in favour of a stay at Newcastle United.

The club’s recruitment has been an issue since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, with failed signings dominating the past ten years despite the reputations that players come in with.

United have seen big names struggle, such as Radamel Falcao and Angel di Maria.

Meanwhile, noisy neighbours Manchester City have become the dominant force in England and Liverpool have won multiple Premier League titles with some astute signings.

United fans will be hoping that the appointment of Connor Hunter will help the club bring back the good times after some difficult times in the red half of Manchester.
