Tottenham star Cristian Romero has etched his name in the club’s history books after UEL success

Tottenham defender Cristian Romero has become a fan favourite during his time at N17. The Argentina international has always put the club first and put his body on the line while donning the Lilywhite jersey. The 27-year-old arrived from Atalanta in 2021 with high hopes, and it is fair to say that the centre-back has performed consistently throughout his time at Hotspur Way.

No one knows what the future holds for the Spurs No.17. But it is clearly visible that his teammates hold him in high regard and consider him as a leader in the dressing room. The North London club has seen a lot of world-class defenders come and go in recent years. And it is fair to say that Cristian Romero is already considered to be one of them.

The Argentina international managed to do what other greats of this club couldn’t during their time at N17. He led the team from the front and helped Spurs win the Europa League against all odds last month. Winning the competition also brought an end to the 17-year wait for a major trophy at Hotspur Way. The performance leading up to the final has etched Romero’s name in the club’s history books forever.

Tottenham star Cristian Romero is set to head for pastures new in the summer

Tottenham are set to lose out on some of their key players in the summer following a dismal Premier League campaign. One of the key players in question is Cristian Romero. The Spurs No.17 has been a mainstay at N17 in recent seasons and losing him would be a massive blow for the newly arrived Thomas Frank.

But the 27-year-old’s heart is set as he wants to head for pastures new in the coming weeks following the Europa League success. Now, reliable journalist Graeme Bailey has given an update on Romero’s situation at N17. As per Bailey (via TBR Football),

“Daniel Levy is, for want of a better phrase, having one final crack at it. He’s going to try and get Romero to sign a new deal. He really does love him as a player. They know he wants to go to Spain, they know he wants to go Madrid. They know he wants to go Atletico. Daniel Levy doesn’t have an issue with Romero. He knows he’s given it a really good shift in England.”

The journalist added,

“They know how important he is (to Tottenham) regardless of who the manager is. But I still fully expect him to go Atletico. You know, he’s talked to Diego Simone. he wants to go. I think it’s going to be very hard for Tottenham to keep him, but if anyone can, Daniel Levy can.”

Graeme Bailey has suggested that Daniel Levy is pulling out all stops to retain Cristian Romero for next season. The journalist has added that Spurs are aware of the fact that the Argentine wants to play for Atletico Madrid next year and has already said yes to their project. Bailey insists that Romero is expected to depart N17 in the summer despite the strong efforts from Levy to convince him to stay.

It remains to be seen who the Lilywhites bring in as Cristian Romero’s replacement in the summer if the 27-year-old departs the club. It was reported earlier that Spurs are interested in signing Yann Bisseck from Inter Milan and view the Germany international as the ideal player for Thomas Frank’s setup.
