Tottenham Hotspur are expected to embrace some changes to their squad when the transfer window reopens in the summer.
Spurs fans have witnessed a torrid campaign that currently sees the team in the bottom of the Premier League table and eliminated from both domestic cup competitions. Despite reaching the final eight of the Europa League by overcoming AZ Alkmaar in the last round, one cannot deny the fact that Ange Postecoglou’s second year in North London has been utterly underwhelming due to many factors.
The Lilywhites appear to be keen on making some adjustments to their forward department. Mathys Tel arrived on loan from Bayern Munich in the January transfer window and is still getting used to life in the Premier League. Whether he joins on a full-time basis remains to be seen as yet, but Ange Postecoglou and the club remain confident of having the Frenchman a part of the club next season.
However, that is not expected to stop the Hotspur Way chiefs from pursuing other attacking reinforcements in the summer—thanks to Timo Werner’s imminent return to RB Leipzig. And with his exit, reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano believes Tottenham will be reinforcing their attacking unit with two forwards.
“With Werner leaving, I still expect movements at Tottenham in the summer even if they decide to sign Mathys Tel,” Fabrizio Romano exclusively wrote in his GIVEMESPORT newsletter.
Werner has endured a disastrous season after Spurs re-signed him on loan last July, scoring just once and registering three assists in 27 games. The German’s frustrating performances have seen him fall way down the pecking order under Ange Postecoglou. The forward is currently injured, along with Richarlison, who is also reportedly on the club’s chopping block.
The Brazilian has barely been available to Postecoglou this season, and frustrated with his persistent injury issues, the club bosses are planning to offload him in the summer. Richarlison, who rejected a move to the cash-rich Saudi Pro League last year, is now attracting interest from former employers Everton.
Whether Tel becomes a permanent member of Big Ange’s roster or not, the North Londoners appear to be interested in signing two forwards as potential replacements for Werner and Richarlison. Bayern Munich star Leroy Sane has been offered to Tottenham recently. Sane is out of contract at the end of the season and is considering options ahead of his next move.
Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap is also on the club’s radar, and if Spurs manage to beat stiff competition and land his signature, he’d be viewed as a potential replacement for Richarlison next season. All in all, it is good to see Daniel Levy and Johan Lange have started planning for the forthcoming summer transfer window.
