After another season of missing out on silverware, Mikel Arteta and Arsenal look ahead to try and improve in the next campaign. They have already completed signings that fix key problems throughout their squad, though they will also have to deal with advances from other clubs for their players. However, news has now come out from Fabrizio Romano suggesting that a Gabriel Martinelli transfer to Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr is not currently progressing.
Amidst rumours circulating across the internet that a Martinelli transfer to Al Nassr is very much on the cards, Romano has come out and revealed that these are untrue. The journalist described such reports as “wide of the mark”. Outlets had suggested a healthy payday for the Gunners should the Brazilian move to the Middle East, though fans will surely be more pleased with the news that their “massive talent” may be staying.
Romano understands that “no talks are taking place” between the player and Al Nassr around a potential move. Arsenal will be grateful to hear that the SPL club are “now working on different targets in the winger position”. Should they find an alternative, the Gunners may feel more positive about retaining their winger, who should still play a big role in the coming season.
Arsenal have kicked off the summer window fairly well, with Martin Zubimendi coming in to partner Declan Rice in what will be an incredible midfield, alongside rumours that Viktor Gyokeres will be arriving to finally provide the solution to their striker problem. Kepa Arrizabalaga has also joined as a backup goalkeeper.
Arguably now, with everyone fit, the one position in which Arsenal lack a truly exciting player is the left-wing. Leandro Trossard is a fine squad player, Gabriel Jesus is recovering from injury, and Reiss Nelson returns from loan.
At one point, Martinelli was at the calibre of the likes of Bukayo Saka, netting 15 in a league season. If he can reach those heights again, Arsenal will have a very strong starting lineup, with a decent amount of squad depth, and could finally be back in an exciting place where they truly challenge for a league title. However, the potential arrival of Noni Madueke could flaw such plans for the Brazilian.
