Mohamed Salah was left out of Liverpool’s starting XI for the first time this Premier League season during their win over West Ham United.

It follows a challenging run for the winger, who has come under fire from Wayne Rooney and others throughout the year.

Alan Shearer has said Salah cannot have any complaints about being left out, and several other high-profile figures have weighed in on his absence as well.

Salah’s omission also comes at a time when he is 33 years old, with questions already being raised about his long-term future at Anfield.

Clubs from the Saudi Pro League expressed interest in signing Salah earlier this year.

A move did not materialise, though, and instead, the Egyptian forward signed a new two-year deal to stay at Liverpool.

Since the extension, the Liverpool legend’s form has dipped.

Now, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has updated on how the Reds are currently assessing his future.

“At the moment from Liverpool, the message is very clear,” the journalist said.

“They don’t want to judge anyone just because of these two, three months that have been complicated for all the superstars at Liverpool, almost all of them. So at the moment, the situation remains absolutely calm around Mo Salah. Then what happens next summer we will see.

“But at the moment they are not trying to find a solution on the market. I can guarantee this nor are player or club. So at the moment everything is still very calm.

“It’s still very quiet. Then again there is an important part of season to play. We see what’s going to happen there.”

Liverpool’s missed windfall for Mohamed Salah

In September, Al-Ittihad reportedly made an offer for Liverpool’s top forward, which the club rejected, according to a BBC report.

The proposal was said to be worth over £100m and could have risen to £150m with various add-ons.

Given his inconsistent form at the start of this season, it is unclear whether a similar offer would come again in the near future.

But as Salah gets older and Liverpool start thinking about life after him, a big-money deal might start to make more sense further down the line.
