Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham have cooled their pursuit of coveted Premier League star ahead of the January transfer window.
Tottenham Hotspur have been one of the clubs interested in signing Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo.
The Ghana international has set the Premier League alight this season with seven goals and three assists from 15 appearances. Several clubs including Spurs were interested in the versatile winger earlier this summer, only for him to sign a new deal with Bournemouth until the summer of 2030.
However, it has recently emerged that Antoine Semenyo’s deal includes a £65 million release clause, which any club can activate from January 1 until January 10th. Along with Tottenham, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal have all been credited with an interest in the Cherries star. It is clear that Antoine Semenyo will have a final say on his future destination, given the plethora of options in front of him.
Tottenham made some exciting attacking signings during the summer transfer window, but the failure to sign a replacement for former skipper and club icon Son Heung-min has come back to bite Thomas Frank. As a result, Frank has rotated between Wilson Odobert, Brennan Johnson and Randal Kolo Muani on the left flank, but the problem hasn’t been solved.
This has resulted in the Lilywhites taking an interest in signing Semenyo. Even recently, reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano had stated that Spurs are being ‘very aggressive’ in January move for Semenyo. However, Romano has now provided the latest update on Tottenham’s pursuit of the 25-year-old. He claims that Spurs are no longer advancing for the Bournemouth ace as of today.
“Tottenham have been interested but in this moment what I can tell you is that after the last two three days, they are not advancing on this topic of Semenyo as of today,” Fabrizio Romano said on his YouTube channel.
There is no specific reason as to why Tottenham have decided to cool their interest in Semenyo. They would have loved to unite the 25-year-old with his international teammate, Mohammed Kudus. The real interest is now coming from both the Manchester clubs, given that the player has a fixed release clause.
As per latest reports , Tottenham have lined up AS Monaco winger Maghnes Akliouche as an alternative target to Semenyo.
Akliouche was of interest to Tottenham in the summer transfer window. A move did not materialise then, but the north Londoners have continued monitoring his progress since the start of the 2025/26 season. The Frenchman has been in good form for AS Monaco, supplying three goals and four assists in 21 appearances across all competitions to date.
Now that Tottenham have ended their pursuit of Semenyo, whether they make concrete steps to sign Akliouche from Monaco in the January transfer window remains to be seen.
