'Fake news' – Chelsea striker links crushed by Fabrizio Romano

Fabrizio Romano woke up feeling dangerous today, and decided to shoot down wholeheartedly a rumour about Chelsea interest in Girona’s in form striker Artem Dovbyk.

His exclusive Monday Caughtoffside column is always handy for dismissing rumours that accumulate from less reliable sources over the weekend, and he’s done just that here.

He crushed the whispers about Dovbyk, and even went as far as to use the expression “fake news” to embarrass those who had been peddling it.

“Despite rumours about Chelsea, Artem Dovbyk is not leaving Girona in January, no chance. It’s fake news, at least for the January window. In the summer we will see, but I have no idea if it will be Chelsea or other clubs, it’s too early to say right now,” Romano wrote.

As much as we see the logic in Chelsea snapping up a cheap, experienced number 9 to help us through the rest of this season, it’s pretty clear that his profile doesn’t fit what the club is trying to do overall, and we’re not surprised to find out that there was never any truth to it.

Girona are on a roll and genuinely look like they could win La Liga. Even if Chelsea wanted him, the Catalans aren’t selling now.
