Fan protests and Pioli’s imminent exit – strange climate surrounds Milan-Genoa

AC Milan will take on Genoa at San Siro this evening hoping to return to winning ways and to take a big step towards securing second spot in the table.

This morning’s edition of Corriere della Sera (via PianetaMilan) writes that the Curva Sud will remain silent. There will be no banners, no flags, no songs and no chants because the strike, proclaimed by the Curva Sud Milano and AIMC, should involve rest of the stadium too.

For Pioli’s Milan, it is certainly not the best possible situation to raise their heads after a terrible month of April. The goal is to close the season with four wins in the last four games, while a win at home today would mathematically seal a spot in the January 2025 Supercoppa Italiana in Saudi Arabia.

The minds of everyone at Casa Milan, according to the newspaper, are turned towards the future rather than achieving second place in the table, more specifically on deciding on who will lead the team next season.

Sérgio Conceição of Porto, Paulo Fonseca of Lille, Roberto De Zerbi of Brighton and Mark van Bommel of Antwerp are all potential candidates to come in and take over from Stefano Pioli.

No choice has been made yet and the next few weeks will be decisive. The management do not want to make the wrong choice, given the protest that was sparked when the news emerged that Julen Lopetegui was close to joining.
